Making Hay MM style

Baling Hay today in Central IL. Beautiful sunny and 70 degrees in July! 48 UTU on the hay rake, late grandfather's 55 UB Special diesel to move loads, and neighbor doing the baling on his U-302 Super.

A couple of sharp looking MMs there, especially the UB Special. I have a diesel one also, and I have a question...what's the metal hoop out front? Is that a weight bracket? If so, did they hold the MM style suitcase weights? I can see on mine where the knockouts are in the lower front panels, but didn't know why they were there.

Yes, that is a weight bracket, but don't honestly know if that's factory or not. Never tried to put any wts on it, I assume MM suitcase weights would fit.

Handles it pretty good. I think he runs high 1st most of the time when the hay is real heavy. Occasionally torques back. 570 New Holland can really pump out some bales. You know it's back there.

Factory Weight Bracket, It is for the Banana Weights, however, Suitcase weights should fit, but the Banana are proper for this era.

Nice Photos, thanks for sharing. ~ Marty

I know I've replied once already but every time I look at those pictures I see more beauty.

Makes sense. You know, I've never seen an actual front factory weight bracket for U's or UB's. Was there one available? I know there were front wheel weights (those are hard to find) Grandfather's 602 has those on it.

Redgems,How about those clouds and how blue the sky is, sky looks like a painting or something, almost doesn't look real. don't notice that stuff sometime until you look at a pic for awhile.By the way, have seen pics of your UTN, nice looking tractor, well done.

Your right those clouds and sky and beautiful equipment I think you need to frame some of those.Besides the "U" the UB looks pretty rare and nice . Don't see many in that year and shape.

Thanks for the pics!!

It"s really nice to see them out getting some exercise and earning their keep and not just sitting in a retirement home, especially in that pretty of setting!

Thanks for the pictures. Looks like a wire baler, don't see to many of those any more. I was baling today with a BC5070 New Holland and M670 Super, first or second low is about all it wants with double raked 9 foot timothy windrows.
