Where can I buy motor brushes for my 4 inch Makita angle grinder model 9501B.Can I just pop a new set in or do I need to take the armature out and polish it(sparks like crazy and have to spin the wheel to get it started).
Hope you guys can help me out, just can't bear the thought of throwing the old girl in the junk.
Thanks Mark

Most good makita dealers will sell brushes. That is if they are not just a retailer. I got some for a friends grinder at a fastner company in lexington , KY.

sometimes you can find some that fit in the little mist stuff drawers at hardware stores.

and on the smoothing the armature. remove the brushes and look at the armature thru the hole, if it is pretty rough looking smoothing it out and cleaning out between the copper strips a bit would be a good idea. Runs cooler, smoohter and the brushes would last longer.

If one segment of the armature looks burned as compared to the others you may have a bad winding.New brushes would not fix that. CENTAUR

Hi Mark,

Try Toolking.com as they stock alot of brushs and repair parts for Makita.

If you ever want to move up to a better ginder, look at the Makita 9505B as it's a 5", 10krpm, 5/8" spindle, about $125 and really is a great sized grinder. I've used them for the past 30yrs with great results and own 3 of them.

If you got a continuous ring of fire when running, its probably too late for brushes. You have open winding in commutator.
