Manifold and Hydraulics

Hi folks: New to the Forum, long time 1954 TO-30 owner. My manifold cracked near "down spout"...went to replace and the exhaust connections are three bolt not flared....I'm getting it welded instead but wondered if anyone has come across this and is the replacement with the three bolt good? If weld fail;s I may have to go this route which I guess means I could re route the exhaust vertical.
Also wondered how much the rear hydraulic A frame can lift, need to move some rocks and don't have bucket?
Went to college in Canadaigua early 70's, Ferguson expo might be the reason for a trip back.
Thanks a million if you can help me.

The 3 pt , it it"s in good shape, can lift ~750-800 lbs at the pins.
Any more than that and the front end is ready to come off the ground

The three bolt design is the TO-35 style manifold and is considered the replacement for the TO-20/30. Most of the manifold kits come with a flare attachment. (lower right)
This is the one advertized here on ytmag.

Thanks, I didn't realize that was what that was, it looked like a blank flange, your picture clearly shows the opening and groove.....have to see how the welding is going and if it's a bust I'll go with your recommendation.

All later tractors have the three bolt fixing which is stronger and doesn't leak like the flared one can, and it doesn't distort either. If the silencer non standard and is heavy it can break the manifold with vibration, you should use a support attached to one of the bolts on the engine mounting. The hydraulics will lift around 850lbs at the end of the link arms, the further you go away from the tractor the less it will lift. It will also depend if the Safety Valve is worn and the pressure is reduced. Due to the leverage involved it will lift less than that from fully lowered position, it lifts most at half-way position and then it tails off again the nearer to the top of the lift cycle it [email protected]

Thanks John: I should have found this forum before I went to the welder, it broke exactly as you describe despite my efforts of support. My hydraulics were rebuilt a few years ago so I'm going to assume they are in good shape, I'll definitely keep the load just inches off the ground, good advice.....

I bought a manifold from here and you will need to take a small grinder and take away metal so you can get the nuts on and tighten down. The manifold works good but the short people forgot to leave room for a nut and a wrench. Other then that half an hour of grinding and you can put it on.

Your new to the forum and the two top techs, John an Jerry have responded, take what ever they say and chisel in stone!! Good to have you aboard, welcome.

Thanks, I hardly ever see a To-30 around here so thought I was out there on my own. Nice to get some expert input before I mess things up...
