Manifold heaters on 861D

Several months ago I bought a decent ford 861D and started looking this one over much closer and have found that a previous owner had removed all parts and wiring for manifold heaters except for the heaters themselves, which I tested and they are no good anyway!! So my question is did these tractors have timers in the circuit, because there is a "glow" light in the dash panel?? If not, any suggestions what I should use along with a relay or solenoid and fuse protection??

Mine has a solenoid switch with a push button to activate the system. Usually 20/30 seconds heat time is enough to start a cold engine. If colder longer is needed.

My 960 D has them. They work as Dieseltech posted. I am sure that it is different but the solenoid looks just like the starter solenoid. I'll be that your operator button is still there on your left. Mine has no dash light wired in.

The red light on the left of the instrument panel is a charge indicator light.
