Manifold nuts

I seem to have lost the exhaust manifold nuts for my Cub. I've had it all apart for engine work and haven't figured out how all the other bolts were in a can except these. Case shows one in stock at $35 each. What else could I use that may available at the hardware store. They are find threads.

You do know, don't you, that when you get the new nuts and walk back into the shop and reach to temporarily put them up on the shelf, there the old nuts will be? Happened to me many a time.

That is why I tell people to put the nuts/bolt back in place so they will be there when you want to put thing back together. It I take it apart I then screw the bolts back in so they are where they should be so when I put it back together they are right there

When I pulled the lift/transmission cover of the 656 I did not long ago I left every bolt in the cover so when I set it back down each and every bolt was right where it should have been. I did pull 5 of them out and used 8 inch long bolts as guide to set it back down but each bolt that went in those holes where laid close to where they came out

It's simply a 3/8 NF "tall nut". NO reason for FIAT to charge $35 for a part #251176R1 nut.

If you GOOGLE that #, there's aftermarket items available in the $.95 to $1 range.

(The GREEN dealer has similar #P40984 nuts available for about $.65 each.)
