Manual steering box crack

My Manual steering 3000 has a 2" long small 1/32" crack on top of the round part where the pitman arm shaft goes into the steering box. Cannot see the crack but the pic shows the general location. Have no idea what caused the crack but not causing a problem that I know of so is putting JB weld over it appropriate? Also replacing the seals where the pitman arm attaches due to leaking. Already replaced with cornhead grease but thought I would replace seals anyway. Any difficulty in replacing seals except getting the pitman arm off? Thanks.

Only one I have seen cracked like that, the guy drove it off into a concrete ditch, the wheel spun and broke his arm and wrist. The shock load cracked the housing. JB weld is not for this kind of repair. Once again if your going to take it apart anyway I would take it into a good shop. Have them grind out the crack and weld it and then grind it to contour. should work fine then. LarryT

i agree with larry.. that is not an area that should have water cracket.. must have been a shock load.. or even a casting flaw.

I'd disassemble and grind and weld.. or at LEAST baze it. I think I'd weld it though myself.

reseal and then still go with cornhead grease
