dont know what kind of spreader this is but i have the beaters working on the grouind drive but i cant get the apron to move do i need to have the beaters in gear to make the apron move? can anyone help the picture is of the side that drives the apron

Donno of any that were connected together - usually one wheel drove the beater, other the apron. Not a good plan to run apron with out beater running.

Looks like ther is a chain going from the beaters in the back to the apron drive.
As Rabbit said, I don't know what good it'd do ya to run the apron withoujt the beaters goin?
Try it and see!

That is the way you always finnished empting out the last bit as without doing that the beaters would just keep rolling that last bunch forward and you would never get it empty.

Mine is a colby, and the larger spoked wheel should have notches all the way around it. Their is a dog that falls down on the notches when the apparatis above it moves to the rear, when it moves forward the dog slides over the notches. On mine it takes a spring to pull the dog down. I hope this helps.

There should be some sort of latch that catches the teeth on the gear. If it has a weak spring or needs oiling it won't catch and just ride over it. One a ground driven spreader you can always run the apron without the beaters.

Chances are it's like Charlie says, the dog isn't catching the teeth int he apron drive. Or, the eccentric that drives the dog isn't falling all the way or you have a frozen bearing in the mix. That set of arms that drives the big gear int he picture should be moving as the wheel moves with the lever in gear.

Block the spreader up and turn the wheel by hand so you can see what it is or is not doing.
