Manure Spreader

Hey all,

I was looking into buying a manure spreader... They are surprisingly more expensive than I had thought, even used. But I have an idea. I have an old ground driven square bale loader/elevator. How hard do you think it would be to cannibalize it along with a 15' trailer frame? If I put the ground drive gears on the trailer frame, make a 3/4" plywood body/hopper and use the chain as a drag/conveyor to bring the compost to the back of the trailer. Do any of you have any plans or seen any plans on making one?

Figure your time x $15.00 an hour plus material, that can tell you if is worth it. Estate auctions are a good place to look (auctionzip.com). I
bought a new idea 213 for a few hundred bucks used it 10 years and is getting turned into a trailer as I have acquired a new idea 208 in great
shape.

Watch the auctions and go to a lot of them. I was looking for a manure spreader a few years back and just kept looking and watching. Got on for a great big $7 and it was full of sheet metal and a few other things. Ya it did need some TLC but it took less then $25 to fix it up and most of that was oil and my time

It might work to make a manure unloader, but how is it going to spread? Just start hunting for a spreader you can afford to buy and repair if need be.

Farm show magazine had one where a guy had i think about a tank with the top quater cut off. It was stainless steel. He put it on a axle and added a hydraulic cylindere to lift it and at the bottom had a spinner to shred and spred the manure. Since it is had to find a new spreader i would make one like this when mine gets too old.
