Marvel Mystery Oil

I have around a 1949 ford 8n when it runs is makes a put put sound when it's warmed up it does matter if its high idle or low idle. When I am in fourth gear and take off from a stop sign it really bogs down and then idles back up if I put some Marvel mystery oil in the oil would that fix it?

I've never been impressed with it.

You need to do a wet and dry compression test and
then a full tune up. You could have a breather full of
mud dauber nests, stuck piston rings, or a clunker.
Never know until you do some testing.

As said do a tune and if I was to add anything to oil it would be Sea Foam. I use Marvel Mystery oil in gasoline of my air cooled engines.

I've never been impressed with it.

Well it smells good, and is a great air tool lube.

What I would do is this.
#1 put a quart of ATF into 3-5 gal of gas and run it that way but first pour a 1/4 cup of ATF in the cylinders and let it sit a day or to so as to help clean up carbon build up and free sticking parts like the valves. The ATF in the gas lubes things that gas well gas is not a lube so a bit of ATF in the gas can help free up sticking parts

I have no proof of this but
I still secretly believe MMO has mystical
properties and prefer it to any other
elixer. Use it for upper end lube and dump
some in my tank on occasion - both gas and
diesel.

Hey guys I took the spark plug wires off one at a time and the spark plug for cylinder 4 was grimed up it running great now thanks to every one that helped

I do not know if it will fix your problem, but I do not think it will hurt you in any way by trying it!
Some call it just another snake oil product, fine with me,

I have an old jeep that had a sticky valve, I tried everything I knew but nothing worked,

Finally I was at Napa one day and told this older guy who had worked at Napa for many years about my problem,
He was quick and direct on his answer:

Said I had two options try marvel mystery oil 1/2 quart in oil 1/2 quart in the tank, or have the head rebuilt,

I poured it in the crankcase and in the tank,
Fired it up, motor was clicking away as the valve was sticking, in 30-45 seconds the noise started to reduce, in another minute or so, no noise,

Over the next 6 months, one time I thought I heard the noise for just a second or two,
Came straight home changed the oil added back the MMO as he directed,
That was 5 or 6 years ago and have never heard the noise again

Just my story and I am sticking to it!

I used Berrymans gas treatment for years . Last time I used it I did not follow the directions . I poured a whole bottle in a quarter of a tank instead of a full tank . It turned my rubber fuel lines to a bubble gum consistency , my fault . I am gun shy now and will only pour MMO in my gas tanks . Upper cylinder lubrication is a good thing .

I have noticed when rebuilding a motor that has run on full synthetic oil that there is no slugde / carbon inside the lifters like you find with conventional oils . I watched my son in law rebuild a dirty motor for his Firebird . A year or two later it blew a head gasket and I bought the whole car . He worked at an oil change shop and one of the perks was free oil so he regularly changed oil with mobile one . That motor was almost spotless on the inside when I tore it down .

I am a synthetic believer . Unless it is an old old burning rig you will be further ahead using at least a synthetic blend . Full synthetic cost more but has twice the life span before it starts breaking down . Your lifters will thank you too . Synthetic will keep the contaminates in suspension where conventional oil let's it sink to the bottom of the lifter cavity .

Ditto with the synthetics. I sold Amsoil for 10 years, converted a lot of cars and trucks to full synthetic.

My experience with sticky/stuck lifters:

I had four sticky lifters in a big Ford V8 station wagon that I sold oil out of for a while. Before I switched it to 15W40 Amsoil "Marine" . . . as it was called then, those lifters were [b:1d90be6857]loud[/b:1d90be6857], like two hammers on a cookie sheet I used to say. But they were totally silent in a day or two and the engine sounded like new after that all the time I had it.

One friend of mine "Dave's Drilling and Blasting" had a couple of hammering lifters in one of his company trucks. . . end of problem after Amsoil. Sure made it easy to get new customers!

A nice Pontiac Transam in Victoria at Ryan Vending had a stuck lifter and I converted the car to synthetic telling the guy I was pretty sure it would go away. I was surprised at how long it took actually and the owner was starting to doubt, but then a little over a month later, totally silent. He was a happy camper.

No doubts whatsoever about the value of full synthetic.
I have tons of success stories about it.
