Marvel-Schebler carb. adjusting

Have a Marvel Schebler carb on my Super C, With the load screw adjusted so it pulls good under load then it runs too rich at idle..I have to turn the load screw in about a 1/4 turn to smooth out the idle..Does this seem right? I just can't seem to find the happy medium on this.

The load screw should not make any difference to the idle. It is the idle mixture screw that needs leaned out.

Does it have 2 adjustment screws?? One up close to the manifold and one down lower in the float bowl area. If it does then you adjusting the wrong one. The one up by the manifold is the idle jet and in for for rich and out for lean. Where as the the main jet is out for rich and in for lean

There's two adjustment screws...the small slotted one is the one I assume is the idle mixture..the other is a large knurled screw which I assume is the load adjustment. I have to turn the larger one counter clockwise to get it to pull under load. Then when I come to an idle, I can tell that it is "loading" up..At this point I have to turn the large adjuster clockwise and the engine smoothes right out. At idle speed,,turning the small slotted screw clockwise seems to lean it out until it stalls the engine. My original carb was a Carter,,and it only had the idle mixture

The small screw only controls the cab at idle. On most it should be set around 1.5 turn out form bottom and then adjusted from there for lowest RPM

But what if the load screw does make a change at idle? could my idle speed still be too high? By ear...it sounds about right.

No wonder your having problem that carb fits a ford. LOL But yes it should still work. The big know one is the main jet and the smaller screw head is the idle. But I am surprised the linkage works like it should

give some details as to what you have the main jet and mixture set at. I know on the international carbs main jet is set to about 2 1/2 turns out. the mixture 3/4 to 1 turn out. this is the starting place then fine tune. plus the mixture screw is leaned when turned out. this screw you adjust for the most rpm at slow idle. then last you set the idle to about 400 rpm. BUT before doing any carb adjustments you must have the points and timing set to spec. ! there is a procedure to follow.

My linkage doesn't look like the picture...But the rest of the carb is identical...I got the carb from another Super C
