Massey 135 Clutch Problem

I have a Massey 135 with a Perkins engine. I have had the tractor split 2 times 3 and 5 years ago and the problem still persists of pushing in on the clutch and the trying to get the tractor stopped by applying all the weight I can on the brakes. It is now getting to the point when it is sometimes hard to get in gear and when it does it does with a strong jerk (worried about breaking a cog). Sometimes the tractor will stop and then it is fun trying to get it out of gear.
Shifting the hydralics will help somewhat at times. I do have some oil leaking which I assume could be a part of the problem why it is getting so bad but still the leak was not always the problem.
Someone told me there is a danger of getting the plate in backwards. Is this a possibility?

Anyway, if anybody has some suggestion you can contact me directly or put your suggestions on here.

Thanks

Too much free play in the clutch pedal?
Clutch driven plate bent when assembling?
Splines on gearbox input shaft or clutch driven plate worn/sticking?
Problem with pilot bearing in flywheel?
Plate in backwards - not likely if the tractor has been split twice(!) as it usually says 'flywheel side' on the driven plate and don't think it would work even at all if fitted the wrong way round.
Wrong thrust bearing?
Hope these suggestions help. I would go for wrong adjustment of free pedal travel at a guess.

Sounds to me like it's just out of adjustment. I'd try that before trying to split it again..

My father-in-law passed away recently and left us a Massey Ferguson 135 Diesel tractor. It's old, but it runs great. Does anybody know where the ID plate should be located? I am trying to find the serial number. Thanks for any info.

Not very familiar with a 135, but on our 165 it's at the base of the dash.
