my neighbor has a 175 and asked me to use it alittle to keep it going and i have a few questions?
1.how do you check to see if it has enough power steering fluid.
2.where do you check the 3pt hydraulic fluid and add fluid at
3.i am having problems getting the lift to stay where i put it i have the draft lever all the way up or toward the rear of the tractor and when i move the postion lever it goes up and down fine but just wont stay where i put it. i can put it in a postition and it might move about a inch or little more really slow before it finally stops. and if you put it down just a little it might not move then you move it just a hair more and it goes down several inches.all the tractors i have ever used if u move the lever just a little it goes up a little and stays but not this one any ideas?

I have a 1973 MF 175, so maybe I can help a little, although I'm no expert. Mine has multipower, so it might be slightly different.

The power steering pump should be on the right side of the engine in the front, and there is a plug on the top and two lines leading forward to the ram (which is in front of radiator behind front grille. remove the plug and the fluid level should be at the top. turn wheels lock to lock before checking.

The hydraulic fluid dipstick should be on the right side sort of behind and below the sectors for the three point. On mine it's a short dipstick with a small ring to pull it out. It will have marks for full, low, etc. You fill it through the big plug on the top of the transmission, just to the left of the shift levers.

As far as the three point lifting, there is a lever on the right side of the tractor, just in front of the dipstick for the hydraulic fluid that adjusts the response speed of the lift. Try different positions for that and see what effect it has on the lift.

Good luck, hope this helps.

Hi,
As far as I am aware all 175's had Pressure Control fitted to them. This is a longer inner quadrant with the option of moving the position control lever forward into the PRESSURE CONTROL part of the quadrant. The POSITION CONTROL quadrant occupies the rear section of the inner quadrant. Move the lever rearwards to lower and forwards to rise. If you do not have Press Con and you have no fine movement of the 3-pt it would appear that there may be seizure or damage to the internal linkage. The linkage is something of a balancing act between the control lever, the position of the 3-pt and the pump lever. Upset this balance by seizure or damage of one part and it will not work satisfactorily.
