Massey 255 Power Steering Question

Massey 255, hyd. fluid is coming out of top of the steering column. What is the fix for this?
Thanks.

There is a seal kit for the top of the column. I did one on a 245 several years ago. The hardest part was removing the steering wheel. Remember the order the parts come out and replace them with what's in the kit. If that doesn't work you may have to remove the steering motor and have it rebuilt or replaced, I think it was a Cessna brand. Go to agcoparts.com and get the kit number then search for an equivalent. That's how I found mine. Good Luck!

Thanks. Looks like the pump for the steering is on the right front side, has a Perkins Diesel. Does the power steering run off the tractor main hydraulics?

ON removing the steering wheel, I had to remove one on my MF202. Below is how I did it.

If you finally need to remove the dash, you will need to remove the steering wheel first. This is how I removed the steering wheel on my MF202. After watching some nit wit on Youtube split the top of the shaft trying to get the wheel off, I decided I would have to be very careful to avoid something like that. I used a bearing puller that you see in the picture. I had been spraying the top nut with Liquid Wrench for a couple days before applying the puller.

After I applied the puller I tightened it as much as I dare. Every couple hours I would spray it again and tighten just a hair more. Then I would tap on the pullers shaft with a hammer. This went on for a couple days like that. Then on the third day I went out to start the process again. I sprayed and tapped and when I tried to tighten a bit, the wheel just popped off. You can remove the wheel without doing any damage if you just have patience and do it slowly.

No, the power steering has its own system separate from the main hydraulics.

Does your power steering pump look like this one on a 255.

You might want to consider investing in the Service and Operator's manuals for your 255, especially if you plan on working on the steering. The Service Manual is MF/AGCO publication # 1448768. The Operator's Manual is MF/AGCO publication # 1448326. There will be a M and number suffix on each pub # but don't worry about those.

Yes. That's what it looks like. Has a loader on it, a little difficult to get to. What type of oil goes in there? The tractor is about a mile away, have to drive it to my garage to work on it. Hope the oil stays in long enough to get it here. Is that fill plug a screw?
The tractor belongs to an older neighbor horse lady, just trying to help her out. We're both well in our 70's.

I run UTHF in mine.

Got the tractor in my shop and got it apart. Got the steering motor out, removed the lines, and 4 bolts on top, then it separated from the steering shaft and housing. Will be a little challenge getting in. Thanks for all the help.
