Massey 261 hydraulics

We just recently bought a 1993 Massey Ferguson 261 with a front end loader and it is very low on hydraulic oil. I can t seem to figure out where to add more at. Any help would be great!

Hello,
As you may know, the 261 is made by URSUS in Poland for MF. The tractor shares many similarities with UK and US made tractors although very little is
inter-changeable.
The filling point for the transmission oil is to the left of the main gear lever as you are sitting in the seat. Remove the plug and add the appropriate
amount of oil to bring the level to the maximum point on the dipstick. Do not be tempted to add any more as the tractor has a loader. Serious damage to the
clutch can result.

Awesome! Thanks for the reply. Is there any specific hydraulic/ transmission oil that is recommended?

Also, there is a slow leak on one of the hydraulic line that we just discovered, is there still pressure on the lines with out the engine running? If so, how would I go about relieving that pressure?

Hi, in the UK it would be a Universal or
Super Universal Tractor Oil. If you are
in the States then your oil supplier
would be the best one to advise you or
another YT'er reading this. To answer
your question on the pressure:- you will
need to trace the pipe to it's end. If
you have single acting lift rams on the
loader then there will be pressure in the
line unless the bucket is on the floor.
If you have double acting cylinders then
the lines that go to the upper part of
the cylinders should not have any
pressure if the bucket is resting on the
floor. Lower the bucket to the floor and
tilt it back and forth slightly until it
settles. Stopping the engine and waggling
the levers may not work if the valve
block has check valves fitted to it.
There will not be any 'pressure' in the
supply line but you will lose oil when
you open a union. It is always good
practice when slackening a hydraulic
coupling to tap it with the spanner to
make sure it's loose with no pressure
behind it. That way you won't get a nasty
surprise.

Again. Thank you so much for the reply.

One more question... is there any box store (tractor supply or auto parts store) that I could find the oil filter and fuel filters? If so, what part number should I be looking for?

Hello, I have the MF numbers from the North American parts book for the 261 but not much else.
Engine oil 1447 048M1 - Sparex S109514
Fuel 1876 507M91
Air gauze element normally washable 1077 559M91
I have tried to cross-reference with NAPA and Wix but cannot find anything more.
It may be a case of having to go to your MF dealer as the filters may be specific to Ursus
products and are of insufficient quantity to feature in the parts lists of the main manufacturers.
Will check my UK suppliers for any further numbers.
