massey 44 diesel injectors

I want to disassemble and clean the injectors on a 44D before I try to fire it up. The pump was professionally rebuilt about 15 years ago but, was never put back on the tractor. The lines and injectors have been exposed for awhile and show dust and slight rust on the interior. Is this wise?

What do you mean it is dust and slight rust on the interior ? Do you mean the pipes are rusted and dusty inside, I mean where the fuel is supposed to be, and the injectors the same ?

If that is the case you need to clean them and get the rust away.
But, in any case, I would clean the pipes carefully both outside and inside before putting them back to use. Cleanness in a diesel engines is of outmost importance.
A little piece of dust is just what it takes to ruin an injector, or the pump, if it is a pipe leading fuel to the pump. And if the filters are old and dirty, replace them too.

It is never possible to get diesel fuel equipment too clean.

My Dad removed the pump to have it rebuilt. He put the injector lines in the empty battery box and put plastic pipe caps over the openings on the injectors. Some of these caps were rather weather worn and cracked and when I removed them, it"s not clean and oily inside, it"s dry and dirty looking where the fuel flows into the injector. I could take them to a diesel shop and have them gone through but, I thought I might try it myself. If I get it running it"s only going to be a toy for me, not a working tractor.
