massey 44 shift prob.

I have a 44, when you shift it it seems to get stuck in that gear and falls out of the shifting slots, is the very bottom of the shifting lever itself suppose to be round because i noticed it was squared off on the top and bottom, just wondering if it was maybe wore that bad.

Just worked on one of these. The bottom is indeed supposed to be flat but the front and rear of the the lever end are suposed to be rounded in each direction. I would be suspicious of somthing worn near the pivot point that would allow the shifter to move up. Also check the clips on the end of the shift rails. there is a cover that comes out right behind the battery box that exposes the shift rails. The one i had apart had all three clips rusted off and could allow to shift to far especially in 5th, reverse, and 2nd in turn allowing the shifter to fall out of the rail. Hope this helps.
