Massey 444 Engine Rebuild

Does anyone know if the standard sleeves and pistons can be installed in a block that has the oversize 4" piston and sleeves?
Is the block bored out to install the bigger sleeves or are they just a thinner wall?

TractorData says the standard bore was 4 inches?

Usually on wet sleeves engines the cylinder wall is thinner for oversize pistons because you are boring out the cylinder, however there is a limit to the max cylinder bore you can safely use.

the 44 special and 444 both have the 277 engine, and that is the standard size. they are the same bore of 4 inch. the older 44 had 260 cid engine , which had smaller pistons 3 7/8 i think. quite sure them sleeves could be bored out to 4 1/8 if there was such pistons. them sleeves are thick.

As others have said, the std piston for a 277 is 4". If you are looking at the 3-7/8 pistons & sleeves, those will only fit in a 260 block used on the 44 models. You cannot interchange a 260 sleeve with a 277 sleeve as they have different OD.
