I have a 65 with the Continental G176 gas engine. Switched to electoral ignition over two years ago. Have had no issues, starting, running, nothing. Till 2 weeks ago, while moving round bales, it started running rough, like a slight misfire. Then it died. Couldn't get it to kick over then, like she wasn't getting gas. Since, I have drained and flushed the fuel tank, twice, cleaned the sediment bowl assembly, the screen at top of assembly and the inner flat screen inside assembly. Then I BOUGHT a new sediment bowl assembly, thinking that inside the original one was clogged. Cleaned the metal fuel line from assembly to carb. Then replaced the entire line. Opened the bowl drain on carb, and fuel ran out. Nice stream, not dripped. Pulled the fuel inlet valve on carb, cleaned that screen. Pulled carb and cleaned all jets with cleaner and torch tips. Checked float, everything is free moving. Reassembled the carb and hooked everything back up, checked for fuel, and have it. Put in Premium gas and the recommended lead additive, as I always have, as suggested by previous owner.
Tractor had been converted to 12 volt system before I bought it.
I replaced the coil ( 12 volt ), plugs ( gapped to .025, as tech manuel specifies), new plug wires, and new distributor cap. Checked the rotor and lightly sanded the contact.
Took apart the oil bath for the air intake, cleaned and put new oil in it as suggested by tech manual.
Reset carb jet adjustments to factory settings, which by the way, was where they were before.
Checked the choke cable for burrs, no issues there.
Finally , I charged the battery.
She will only start with ether, then she shutters out. It's as if she's not getting gas, which is what I thought originally 2 weeks ago, before I replaced all the above parts mentioned above.
Guys, I'm at wits end. I am not very knowledgeable with this kind of stuff, but my neighbor who is, has been leading the way on this problem. We're currently grasping at straws, and could use some advice. Thanks.
