I have a 1959 Massey 65 and it is cutting out and back fireing when I use it for only about 5-10 minutes. It will start back up but will do the same thing if I idle down early enough it will stay running if not it will die.I have another 65 that is a 1961 model that I took the distributor cap, rotor, plug wires and put new plugs in but it didnt make any difference.Any advice on what to try next would be to great appreciation , I need to get my brushhogging done and the weeds are taking over. Thanks

Sounds to me like it's starving for gas. Does it have one of those inline gas filters like it shouldn't even have,or just a sediment bowl?

my 65 that i bought recently was doing that, i took it to my neighbor and he flushed all the old gas out cleaned the carb and now it runs fine.

My ford was doing that. Took the valve off the bottom of the tank and found a lot of crud blocking the valve entry. Would fill the sediment bowl, but then when started, tractor would starve in a few min and blockage would not flow enough to keep up. Shut it off, and a few min later it starts, but starves again... Removed the crud and runs perfect.

Start at the tank, crack the line and see if you have flow, then start working towards the carb, checking each component. Bet you will find a clog...

My Oliver 7300 combine was doing it. I took the sediment bowl assembly out of the bottom of the tank. Looked down in the neck of it,there was a kernel of corn down in there. Gas was getting through, just not enough when it got under a heavy load.

Like the others say. Check the fuel flow. My Massey 231 had the petcock on the bottom of the tank clogged with junk. It would quit now and then under a heavy load due to the lack of fuel.

Might also take a look at the carb inlet. Some have a screen there that can get plugged. Sounds like a fuel starvation problem to me.
