This is a follow-up to a discussion in the spring about warming up a Massey 2675 to ensure no damage is done to the tranny Despite my best efforts to warm up mine for the first time in spring, the intermediate range has disappeared. I used the tractor for about 30 hours during summer and tranny and motor seemed fine but I don't want to lose the low and high range or wreck the motor. Lugnuts2030 kindly pointed out that the older 2675's had poorly made o rings that broke down and that they should be replaced with new ones. Are these O rings easily accessible in the tranny or are we looking at tearing it apart?

Tractor needs split to get the 24 speed input clutch pack assembly out the front of transmission. Oil pressure is used to apply either low or high range, and at the same time either is applied oil pressure is also used to RELEASE the intermediate clutch as it's SPRING applied.

Thanks. Very helpful. So, you're saying that the intermediate clutch is not being released and that will eventually cause damage to hi/lo range?

If intermediate does not work, it's either a control valve problem OR intermediate clutch problem as it's SPRING applied and OIL PRESSURE released. Usually the LOW clutch has damage when the piston seals fail, as bad seals will cause BOTH the low and intermediate clutches to be applied at the same time which must NOT happen. I've never tried it but the MF 24 speed models should be able to pull/roll start in highest gear, since intermediate clutch is SPRING applied, and would be applied whenever engine is off.

Thanks for the insight. For tractor operation on the farm, I only need the high and low range gears. The bottom line: what damage would be done if I continue to operate the tractor without repairing the control valve problem or intermediate clutch problem in the transmission?
