my mf 298 is making engine oil..does not smell like fuel..where should i look for leaks hyd or fuel? has 2x8 trans

Hi,
Really only two places for fluid to enter from. The fuel lift pump or the steering pump. Seals and diaphragms can go hard and crack or perish.

The fuel injection pump shaft seal would be another possibility. Has the injection pump developed any external leaks? Tell-tale sign of other unseen leaks/problems. Engine oil has to have a lot of added fuel to "smell" of diesel, way up the dipstick.
