Massey Ferguson 65 G176 Tachometer Drive

Hello everyone!

I just bought a 1958 Massey 65 with the G176 gas engine and I'm having some trouble locating the tachometer drive.

I've made some research and I've heard that the tachometer cable is supposed to be connected to the generator, but mine was replaced with an alternator.

I've have also heard that the tachometer cable should connect behind the distributor, but I can't find where exactly.

If anyone can help me with that it would be very appreciated.

I believe they all drove from a small gearbox that mounted on the back of the generator.

So, I guess the easiest would be to buy an alternator with a tachometer drive connection ?

Yes, this is NOT a Generator. But does have a TACHOMETER DRIVE...

The very late MF 175 and 180 diesels used an alternator with the tach drive gearbox. The AC 190XT I think did too.

The alternator with the drive works ok. The original cable is all but to short. Is there another cable of a newer tractor that will
work?

Check into the length of the tack drive cable from a MF 88...continental diesel engine..

Hello again !

Since my alternator is perfectly fine, I decided to go with a digital tachometer. I bought a simple one with an hour meter from Amazon but it's an unusable piece of junk.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a tachometer that I can connect to the coil?
