I would guess that it’s a transplant from some other piece of equipment. Looks like it fits well but isn’t original. By the pictures I think there has been a few changes on that machine. Over all looks pretty good. Should be a serial number on the engine that someone on this site can help you more with.

The F124/ F140/F162 all look the same OUTSIDE. You won't know for sure what it is until the head is pulled to measure the bore size, all three had a 4 3/8 inch stroke.

Is this a 101 Jr or a 20. The thing that gets me is the distributor under the carburetor.

It is probably a 101 Jr, with some changes. The oil fill spout is in the wrong place for an F124, 140, 162. The engine ID tag is behind and above the starter, behind the oil filter lines and canister on the L-head Continentals. Look along the block/oilpan rail, right side facing forward, towards the rear for the block casting numbers. The F-series Continentals will say F400 there. Like Dieseltech said, the tractor serial number is stamped into the transmission case rail, between the tranny cover and the implement lift cover. Most of it, except that sheetmetal engine curtain looks just like my two 101 Jr.s. steve

Normally, the oil fill cap would be right behind that aluminum tape on the exhaust pipe. Your block may have an unmachined casting there. It may be an F162 out an older Lincoln welder. Maybe an F163 out of a newer one. steve
