How does a Massey Harris 30 bone stock. It has the 162 ci with 11x38 tire. looking to pull her in 4500 and 5500 stock class. Is there any engines bigger that will bolt up in its place? I was told this tractor is under powerd for its weight? There are verry little posting on this tractor. Any help would be great.

Try for 3500 lb class. Same block as used in 81/20/22 tractors. 162ci is the biggest Continental made that series of 4 cylinder. Would be very underpowered at 5500 lbs, probably only 30-35 horse when tuned up at stock RPM. 60 horse motor in generator aplications at 3200 RPM. Torque peak at 1600 or so... What sort of rules do you have at the pulls you would like to go to? How big is the sled?

There are two clubs in my area that have 5 pulls a year. Then there is two local firemen clubs that have two pulls and lastley 3 local fairs. The rules are differnt for 3 of the pulls. The one pull that i like. They have pure stock class they alow one tire size over stock. ten % over rpm 18in high draw bar 24in from back axel 3 mph speed.I know for a fact that most tractor have had motor work. ex. H with 350 parts that pulls in 2nd gear and spins the tires at the end 4500 lbs 5500lbs class. But for the STOCK class you are allow to make modifications like motor swaps as long as it looks and sounds stock they leave you alone tires one size over stock. the sled is what i am told heavy for the big tractors. This pull only offers 4500lbs and up in 1000lb increases. Now the other pull i like follows the N.A.T.P.A rules and have a small sled that a A/C B can pull. Any help would be great thanks. Lastly no one has Massy Harris tractors at theas pules just whant to be differnt and still be respectable at the end of the day.

I pull a MH 44 four cylinder. With me on it, the smallest class I can get into is 4500lb. As the tractor sits, its right around 4100lb and Im 230lb. I took off the cultivator lift, rear pto and side pto. But I think its close to impossible to strip them down more than that. The engine is heavy! I have enough weights to get into 5500lb, but it takes a lot of them to get it there. "Run what ya brung and hope ya brung enough" 8)

Thanks for the help! I picked up the 44 today its got its problems like a nock and will only run with the choke all the way. BUT on the good note, the trany, cluches, tin work is great, has been repainted looks good, old 12.5x38 tires but hold air power steering is that stock?
