matte finish

I have heard about an additive you can get in paint to give it a matte finish. Does anyone know what is called and how it works.

It's also referred to as a deglosser and available at auto paint suppliers. You should check with them on the ratio and pick up an empty can to mix separately. It can substantially reduce color hold-out of paint (thin). When shooting paint with the additive, it's better to shoot an untreated base coat or two for coverage, let that flash then shoot your flattened top coat.
