McCormick #100 Balanced Sickle Mower

Hey gents, had a quick question about a sickle mower I found that I think I am going to buy. It is a fast hitch #100 Balanced Mower, I believe. Has a 7 foot sickle on it, with the following numbers I was able to pull from it. 458891 R2 on frame rail on front, 456567 R2 on one of the main belt pulleys. It does not have a tailing wheel on the back and does not have a hydraulic cylinder. It is in very good working order and in very good overall condition. Any thoughts?

If in good shape, better get it. I have the same mower, but mine has the cylinder/tail wheel and has a nine-foot cutter bar. Mine bolts to a three point cross bar and three point is left set at one spot as cylinder raises/lowers cutter bar. Fast hitch/three point models use that chain fastened to the tractor, and cutter bar is raised/lowered WITH the fast hitch/three point. Dad bought a three point model new years ago that also had a rear hitch/PTO for the hay conditioner. I just used mine on some thistle patches this week, it knocks them down REALLY fast with the nine foot cutter bar.

I have one just like that and used it for over 4 hours today. Works great!!! Only suggestion is to take the head off and send it to Rouse rakes to have it overhauled if it has been sitting a while. The crankshaft alone was $1000 several years ago when I had mine done. Mine had water in it and the bearings were all rusty. The overhaul is well worth it if you plan on using it a bunch!!!!! The hitch does the raising of the bar and such so it is fully mounted. I also added adjustable hold downs from them that make it easy to adjust the sickle for wear. I would say it is a GREAT mower!!! One last thing, it allows you to mow a bank (like a road ditch) or such that a pittman mower will not allow you to do.

Dieseltech, yours is the drawbar mounted version. It's meant to go on the U-shaped drawbar on an H or M or something like that.

If they're good, they're a great mower. If they need work they're expensive to fix, especially the wobble box.

What tractor do plan to use this on? I have one that I adapted to fit my 300 utility. The 300 utility has its own mower, (F-28?)which only fit it. I had to make a way for the 100 to work on the 300u, so made a bracket and chain set up for cutter bar lift set up; (your chain with the big clevis.) My 100 mower was originally on a 230 Farmall. It is a great cutting mower. Mark.

Exactly like the one my dad had that is now my brothers. Chain by right side that is missing is what you use to set how far down the mower rests when cutting. The other second chain on the left has two plates that you pin to the bottom of the lift cylinder, that operates how height the bar is when lifted. Nothing touches the ground and now wheels to worry about.
