McCormick Deering 10-20

I recently picked up my second 10-20, and I can't seem to put a year on it. I have a 1928, but there are some little details on this one that are quite different. 1st thing, it has no brakes, and apparently was made without them. The choke is located halfway between the carb and the air cleaner, and the radiator has round tubes, not flat ones like my '28. The rear wheels have more holes in them than swiss cheese, but looks like there was once angle iron on them instead of spikes. Can anyone identify the year of this one? Sure would help me.

Early 1927 and before had the choke in the air cleaner casting. Check under the belly and there will be a casting date under the clutch area. Also, check the engine block serial number, it should be the same as the plate used to be. That will give you the year. I have had a bunch of 10-20's meself, great lil tractor. Are your rear hubs split and bolted? This would also be early. And the shifters would have no steel cap like your 28, they would have had leather boots when new. Round governor? Smaller front hubs than your 28? That would be real early, and water air cleaner. The round tubes are just older than the flat. Your 28 prolly had round too when new. Flat cores are the latest, round cores seemed to corrode thin over the years.
