I have a old Mccormick/Ih harvester thresher that belonged to my grand dad. It is total galvinize and has round spoke wheels. I have searched and searched trying to identify.Would I be correct that a model 42 is 4 ft model 52 is 5 ft and 62 is 6ft. I have not located a serial plate. Where would it be located.

Thanks Randy

I think they all were 4' cut, the 62 replaced the 52 which replaced the 42. I had a 52 and it was red.

42/42R was 4' cut, PTO drive only. Made 1940-43. 52R was 5' cut, but from the header back was the same basic machine as the 42. 52R was made 1943-1950. The 62, I can't remember the production date but it is a larger machine than the 42/52R, design is similar and as mentioned it is a 6' cut. The 52R and 62 could be PTO or engine driven.

These machines didn't have a serial number plate. The serial number was decal-ed on, located on the side of the machine near the cylinder shaft. Lots of times the decals have long-since faded out or peeled off.

If you can post a picture I can tell you for sure what you have.

Yes, all 42/42R's were PTO drive. Engine was optional on the 52R. The Cub engine was used on the last 52R's, prior to that they used a Continental Y-69.

That said, I could see somebody with some good mechanical skills fitting an engine on a 42R. But they did not come from the factory with an engine.

Looking forward to pictures, there is a combine in an old shed here, IHC, pull type, all galvanized, always wondered what model it was. Not many old combines around here....James
