hi and good day to all
hoping possibly someone here can help me locate a part for my manure spreader please ! I have an McCormick Model 21 , its probably from the 50s. I need the two spools that are used on the chain tensioner bracket. There is a spool on each side towards the back. These spools allow the chains that turn the beaters and spikes to be engaged and tightened. both spools have worn out the center barrens which have fallen out. The wood is in good condition , the chain apron has been replaced along with several parts of the chains plus the beaters haven fixed and supported SO i hate to lose the functioning of the spreader because of these spools. Unfortunately
i can find no information on this model.. i use this spreader every day and just cant afford to replace it.. any help would be greatly appreciated...

Just use a wood block for the tensioner. Many places use them for that job. Gleaner by Allis Chalmers used them on combines. So it is not a new idea. They wrok very well with little maintenance required. Just round the corners slightly so they don't catch and away you go. A pipe with a plate welded across the one end can work also.
