MD no spark

Just got my MD mag back from Rudy at Rebuilt Mags. Got it installed tonight and to my disappointment, still no spark! Rudy said everything looked good and worked great for him.

I tried with the grounding wire from the manifold connected and disconnected with no difference. If I had a problem in the manifold, the mag should still fire with the grounding wire disconnected correct? Going to call Rudy on Monday but Im at a loss. Thanks for any help!

The magneto on the md turns the opposite direction as opposed to the magneto on a gas engine if that is the case you MIGHT have received a magneto for a gas engine instead of the correct magneto by accident. If it is a manifold problem yes the magneto will still fire with the wire off of the magneto the only purpose of the wire is to shut off the magneto when you turn the tractor over to diesel.

Pull the center wire out of the cap. Place it near the block, 1/8" or so, and crank the engine. If the mag does not click, the impulse coupling is not working. Make sure (as 1960 indicates) that it is the correct mag. Jim

Yes I have the correct mag and when I do as you described, i have a nice blue spark. Does that mean I need a new cap and rotor or??? I thought they looked good but maybe I"m wrong since Im not getting any spark to my plugs. Plug wires are new from Brillmans.

Probably, or the rotor has a sheared drive lug on the inside. The rotor must be timed to the Mag cam shaft (gears inside back of the rotor. The mag will spark well if wrong, but the rotor will be pointing to the wrong place. There are timing marks on the teeth, but look for pictures, or info in the archives for better concepts. Mag rotor timing would be a good search. Jim
