It's 'official'.The (52)MD is officialy "junk".Found another cracked (4") sleeve. The crank is marginal. The head is cracked as well.I simply cannot afford an overhaul, crankgrinding(if grindable). Then if the pump is bad..Several thousand dollares later and still money spent. So,I have been given a '61 GMC 305V6.My biggest concern/question is hooking the flywheel to the V6.Adaptewr plate,or redrill flywheel?Everything else should be a nonissue. I see a ton of Ms out there with V8s 'crammed' into them,So,why not a V6? This of coarse would be 'low budget',just like everything I do...LOL. gMcV6;MV6.....LOL!!Comments;questions;opinions;suggestions? Thanks. Steve

I was wondering what happened to the V6 project!
Me, I would use flywheel and pressure plate from V6 and clutch disk from MD....Or look into using clutch disk hub from MD and adapt to V6 clutch disk. I can't remember if the V6 clutch disk is a 12" or larger. Compare and see if going that route would loose too much surface area being grabbed.
If that didn't pan out I would think about plugging the crankshaft holes and re-drilling or using an mounting adapter. I'm a little wary of modifying a cast flywheel.

Put a BIG BLOCK in it . 454-460-505-440. . OR Cumminsfy it with a 3.9 then ya can have a live hyd. with a gear drive pump on the engine

I agree with JIM. The 305 V-6 made it's maximum HP @ 3600-3800 rpm, but torque peak was at 1400-1600 rpm, and they made a boat load of torque! Burned a lot of gas too.

305 will be big enough to do anything the MD did and shouldn't tear up the transmission & rear end like a big block would. And it just might slip down inside the frame rails which a big block would never do! They are a 60 degree engine, narrower angle than a V-8. The V-6 was designed to run flat out, really well built engine.

Do a search on "60-66 GMC" and you should find a V-6 collector's forum. Bet there's a couple guys there that would be glad to help you with information and parts sources.

I already have the V6 in my possesion. And it was FREE.I will never use as a "farm" tractor.Just for 'show',some paradeing and some pulling in the antique classes.Gas consumption is a nonissue. Hydrailcs are not an issue. The peak torque at 1500-1600 is perfect!!Lots of V8 conversions, but I'll have the only V6 'jimmy'.

That is going to be a nice set up when your done. I put a 3.4L BMC diesel in a Massey Harris 30 a few yrs ago. Lot's of torque, handy for what do with it and cool to take to shows too.

Sounds good delta red stay in touch you have my email
Send me a couple pics of the engine both sides when you can and I can see what I could use
