measuring hydraulic fluid?

I'm adding hydraulic fluid and looking at the measuring stick I'm not sure what side to go by? One side of the stick says "pedestal oil level filler opening" with an arrow pointing each way, one at the bottom of the stick and the other at the top.

The other side of the stick says "full" at the bottom with an arrow pointing up to a criss cross area. Above that is an downward arrow that says "hydraulic system all cylinders extended" .

My guess is to go by that side and fill to the top of the criss cross area?

your dipstick is different from mine, i'm guessing it's an aftermarket. one system u can count on - remove the bottom bolt from either side's round cover. when the fluid reaches the bolt hole, stop. i've also heard it helps to pour some and then wait to let the fluid work its way into everywhere and get a truer idea of the level.

When you say "bolt hole" you dont mean the top filler hole. cant imagine I'm supposed to have oil all the way to there.

no, i meant the hole the bottom bolt of the round cover goes into.

by the side round covers, i am referring to the one with the PTO lever in it on the left, and the one with the dipstick in it on the right side of the tractor.

Sounds like your dipstick is marked for the later row crop tractors that had a front bolster with oil. Use the bolt hole method and note where this falls on the dipstick.

Yes, that dipstick is the one for the 4 cyl. row crop models, so you will need to put a new full mark on it or get the correct stick.
