Mechanical Issues John Deere 9360r

Having issues with our 9360r tractor, electrical problems. Randomly the monitor will beep at the operator saying either "cab switch module error" or "communication error". The machines electronics will then act randomly such as hazard lights turning on by themselves, corner post display turned off, arm switches don't work anymore, and the machine will stop and put itself in park both in the field and on the road. Sometimes all of these symptoms happen, and sometimes just a few. Doesn't seem to have much of a patter to it.

The machine will run fine for hours, even days but then randomly will begin to have this problem and will get worse and become useless. Then, it eventually starts to act fine after a few hours of shutting off the engine and letting the system reset.

There may be a connection between rough roads/fields and the issue becoming worse. We're not sure if it works a wire loose or something but it seems after driving over rough roads or in a rough field the issue will pop up and persist for hours to days. Attached are photos of what the display shows as well as a step by step story of how one of the operators described their experience when it went off on them. Would really appreciate some help if anyone has delt with this as well. If it helps we've already tried switching the arm rest controls between this 9360r and our 9460r hoping that the arm rest controls were the issue, but the problem still persists.

A big ask looking for advice on CAN issues on a forum that believes in the superiority of carburetors and ignition points.

But anyways here goes…

The fact that the issue gets better for a while when you turn cycle the power leads me to believe that the problem is a connection issue with a CAN terminator, or the terminator itself. Start with checking the resistance on the CAN involved with these controllers. There is a 120 ohm resistor at each end of the circuit, gives a total resistance of 60 ohms. The terminator serves to prevent the electrical messages from reflecting back at the end of the harness. If one is not connected/working you get a build up of signals confusing things. Hence why the power cycle helps.

Beyond that, the best thing to do is check for any related stored codes and see if you can sweet talk your friendly local JD service manager to do a DTAC search for those codes. The search might kick back a common cause.

All that said, network issues can be frustrating to find, and are not always caused by logical issues. I once had an 8x20 tractor with a pile of transmission codes, turned out the fuel transfer pump was the culprit. Drunk aunt Myrtle was talking trash on the party line!

You might do well to post the same question over at New Ag Talk. There will be many more experienced people on that forum.

Hello Adam, welcome to YT! I see you have posted this on AgTalk, that would have been my first recommendation. In general folks that post here are not in “big ag” like the majority of AgTalk posters are. Most conservations here are about tractors made in the 80’s or earlier. We can tell you to checked the grounds and look for rodent damage but that is probably the extent you will get from here. Those new machine are nice being able to work most functions with buttons and switches. As you are finding out when they have trouble it can be an expensive nightmare.
