Mechanical Reverse Raise Disc

Does anyone have any information as far as brands / models of the old discs that raised up for transport when you reversed the tractor at the end of your row? What actually do they call them also??? Thanks

I don't know of any that raised. The old discs that didn't have wheels straightened up for transport. They made the blades run straight so they rolled instead of cutting at an angle.

That is probably correct. I just ran across a video on the innerweb (very short and wasn't very good quality and the camera was far away so I couldn't really tell) but the guy got to the end of his row, backed up a couple feet and the tongue pushed back and the unit seemed like it rose up, which could be what you stated, straightened the disk up straight. I had never seen such a thing and I asked my uncle, who is fairly old, and he said he had never seen such a thing either. In the video the guy was pulling it with a little Farmall B or A and it was working great! Thought I would begin my search for one but I have no clue what they are even called.....

You are correct, it did just straighten the disk up straight. I found the video on youtubes with a little better quality. Here it is: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Pq0ctYlT_c

Here is some info on the Mccormik which more or less becaupme the ihc.

We had 2 of them, an old 10 foot and a 'big' 12 foot with folding wings that made it an extra couple feet.

Thank you much sir that is helpful!

I have a single wing disc, IHC, I bought when I was around 18. for $75.00 It had wings ion the ends that were around 3ft each. They unpinned from the front, then you swung them around on the back pin, then with the front pin, locked it back for transport. I was around 20ft long all stretched out. I found that discing with the wings in made that part look more in better shape then in the middle between the wings. They sure bead dads JD wing disc. You would have to lift the wings up and over and then drop them in the ground. BUT getting those wings back up was a pain for a kid under 30 lol. When I moved from Kan to Mo, I left them knowing I wasn't ever going to really farm again.

Thank you guys, didn't take long and I found a McCormick Deering Model 10-A. Going to go pick it up this weekend. much appreciated Andy

A trick I learned long after I left home, which likely increased the life of my brakes on various tractors, was to take the pins out of the drawbar when plowing and discing, BUT NOT HARROWING, and let the drawbar swing free at corners. On hill sides when I was back in NE Kansas Id leave one pin in so the plow wouldn't slide down hill while plowing, but taking the other one out aided in making turns.
