And left the fuel on all week. Yep, I know - supposed to shut it off. Seems like some went on through. Anything I need to do besides changing the oil before I try to crank her over?

Thanks

Dave

Don't know of other.

Was the level on the dip stick above full?

The first thing I would fix is the float or needle valve.
It never hurts to shut off the fuel at the tank.
But you shouldn't have to. I never shut mine off.

You shouldn't have to change your oil. It's an updraft carb. It shouldn't have flooded enough to put gas into the oil. Its your tractor and you know what you are looking at. Is there gas in the oil?

I never used to turn mine off at all, then, didn't use the tractor for a few weeks and came back to find all my gas had leaked out thru the bottom of the carb, (yes, I always kept the valve turned all the way on) That was the beginning of a lot of problems and a lot of fixes. Just check your oil level. If it is overfull, you will have to do some checking and go to plan B. Plan A is start it and run it.

"shouldn't" is the operative word there. If the drain in the bottom of carb intake tract is open enough to handle the needle valve leakage, then no gas into oil pan, but if that little hole & filter are clogged, then since tank is above engine, you can have an oil pan full of gasoline. If you have gas in the oil, I would not run the engine. :!:

No, that's not correct. See tip # 9. It has happened a number of times.

Actually, you have three problems, the first being CRS.......you forgot to turn the fuel off! Double check the condition of your fuel cut-off valve by by removing the gas line from the carb & putting a bucket under it w/ the gas off. If you have gas in the bucket the next morning, time to repair/ replace the valve.

Problem #2 is in the carb. You have a bad float, needle valve or seat or trash under the needle valve.

Problem # 3 is possible......gas in the oil pan. Just check the oil level and smell the dipstick. If you do not have gas in the oil, no need to change anything.

Because you discovered that the fuel was left on, you will not have problem #4. This is one of my all time favorite posts concerning not turning the gas off:

"We just had an 8N in the shop that the owner wanted us to fix the carb leak and replace the starter because the engine wouldn"t turn over. Turns out the base had more gas in it than oil and the bearings didn"t get enough lube from the diluted oil and seized the engine. I think of that tractor every time I park my tractors now and don"t forget to shut the fuel off."

Sorry my mistake. I guess thast's why I never put a new "plug" in the weep hole in the bottom of my carb. My carb works fine (thats all relative) but will flood immediatly if you leave the gas on after you shut it off. I put an in-line valve at the carb. I know I've got to take the time to fix my carb but don't have the funds avalible right now for a carb kit. Parts seem to be much more expensive here in Canada. I just ordered the comp. ignition tune kit and a FO-4 manul and it was $200. The kit #9N2NTUNEKIT is 39.99 on here its over $100 plus 13% tax here. I priced the points and crab cap at NAPA the points were $20 and the cap was $39. I figured it was cheaper to buy the kit through the local(60 miles away) Kubuta dealer. Yt dosen't ship to Canada.

Are the higher costs due to the exchange rate, Canadian taxes or what? I thought NAFTA took care of all of that! (silly me......)

Unless there are a bunch of laws (US and/or Canadian) it would appear that a US third party shipper could provide a needed service. You send them money, they order the part, have it sent to them, then forward it to you.

If it is a simply dirty needle / seat, sometimes you can remove the brass elbow and the drain plug and give a few shots of carb cleaner using a can with a straw, into the fuel inlet, till you see liuid running out the drain.. etc.

Yeah, but you have universal health care!

With those prices, there's got to be a better way.
There may be some suppliers that ship to Canada, or find a third party in the states near the border to order and reship for you. Order from the US supplier using your credit card, have it shipped to the US border party, and have them bring it in. I'd do it for you, but I'm too far from the border......

I used to be a Paramedic up here and worked some in New Hampshire. I believe your health care is a better system. We I worked in the emerg. dept. in NH everyone that walked through the door was seen within 20 minutes. Here if you go to the emerg because you are sick ie have a flu or a cold you've had for weeks because you cann't find a family doctor you have to wait 7 or 8 hours to be triaged and you might wait 12 or 16 hours to see a Doc. The last two times I went to the emerg. both because of head injurys and concussions I had to wait 2-3 hours to be seen. Getting 40 or 50 stitches in your face 4 or 5 hours after you've got cut is no fun.(I took my son coasting and it didn't turn out to well) I had blood leaking out of both my ears and had to stay at the hospital from 1 o'clock in the morning on sunday till 6 oclock monday before the doc decided he wasn't sure what was going on and sent me home.(I was at a dance and a guy tried to beat my head off with a quart of rum then his brother put the boots to my head)

Some people think old tractors are dangerous, but after reading your post, if I were you, I think I might consider staying on/around my tractor more & less time elsewhere!

All the liberals here seem to tout the "wonderous nature" of universal health care & that comment by me was my way of saying B.S.
Some people always think they can get and want something for nothing...or at least, for someone else to pay for it for them.
Sorry for all the mess, high taxes, and all, but don't move yet, we are getting there & faster every day!
