I got an old delta wood working band saw. Have some metal blades for it too. I have never used them , but I do not see why it would not work on metal with the correct blades.

I have a tilting steel cutting saw from Harbor Freight. It has a table for cutting in vertical position, and I sit on it when cutting vertical.
I like it. It works very well.

Some folks put a jackshaft in a woodworking bandsaw to get the speed down to where it needs to be for steel. I think you have to get a reduction of between 10:1 and 30:1 for it to work well. Google 'bandsaw jackshaft'.

Unless you have some deep pockets, look into a used DoAll or another industrial duty saw with a reduction gear drive.

Should be able to find something even if it needs a little TLC, it will serve much better than trying to get by with a wood saw.

Check Ebay, Craigs List, surplus catalogs.

I'm with the crowd that uses a wood bandsaw, geared way down with a salvaged gear-reduction motor. I cut a lot of mild steel on it every year. If you get to that point, and need blades, I just salvaged a bunch of 1/2 inch Lenox DiemakerII blades that are 20' long. Brand new. I took 2 to my blade guy and had him weld up four 93 1/2 long blades, for $7 per weld. Brand new Lenox blades for $7 each. steve

Powermatic model 87. It has a 20 throat and variable speed with a 2 speed gearbox. You can use it for wood or metal that way.

I just glanced at one on eBay, they said blade speed was 37 to 4500 fpm.

Me too. Mines from TSC but it's the same thing. Once I viewed some You Tube videos on how to adjust the guides (had to file them so they'd twist far enough) and after I made a new, much larger and stiffer table for vertical use I've been happy with it. But they have no where near the capacity the OP is looking for.

DoAll name brings back memories. My first real job after high school was working for the DoAll company. Worked there from June of 1951 til 1956 with a couple years out for Uncle Sam. Good company.
