Methanol for tire fluid?

I inherited about 3/4 full 55 gal. drum of methanol. Can I use this for tire fluid? I have new tubeless and I don't want to take any chances in rusting the rims nor damaging the tires.

Around here all they use is methanol.

Methanol attracts water and is highly corrosive to metal and rubber. That could be one of the worst choices for tire ballast.

It's a bad choice for ballast in a tubless application. You need a tube to keep the corrosive stuff away from the tire and rim.

It is bad on rubber. do a goole search on it and read about it.

Part of the reason for tubes is that with a liquid tire fill you only fill to about 80% level. That means there will be air in there. methanol must be mixed with water so you don't blow yourself up. The water and methanol are rarely pure. No telling what the exact corrosive properties of the mixture will be when it has air to work with.

Make sure you know what you have in the barrel. If it's 100% methanol it's explosive and toxic. Mixing with water it works similar to antifreeze but I don't know what the recommended percentages are for the lowest temperature where your tractor is kept.

Calcium chloride is probably more corrosive, but I'd rather use that than methanol.

of methanol will make 55 gal of windshield washer fluid good down to -20,, I don't think that mix will mess with the tires,,, but they are not my tars :wink:
