Metric nut sizes

I find myself needing more metric combination wrenches than I already have. I guess I'm looking for sizes that will not likely ever be used like the 25/32 socket in a set. I have a pretty complete set of metric combination wrenches from about 13MM to 20MM then the 24,30and32 MM want to fill in the gaps just not waste money on ones not used only once in a decade or less.

I work on Japanese motorcycles and my Chevy Cobalt, all metric. There are several standard size wrenches that any good metric set should have. 8, 10, 12, (13maybe) 14, 15, 17, 19, 22, 23, 24, 27, 30. I haven't seen the need for much else. Your use maybe different. Most often used are my 14, 15,17, 19, 22, 27,and 30. The Chevy uses the 15, kinda oddball.

18mm is very common on many vehicles in my experience.

I checked my tool box again, no 18mm. But forgot the 21mm. So maybe your list should be: 8, 10, 12, 13?, 14, 15, 17, 18, 19, 21, 22, 23, 24, 27, 30.
If I don't have an 18, its because I never needed one, yet. Ha Ha.

Get a couple metric crescent wrenches just in case. I also have a metric hammer. I didn't think I would ever need it but you'd be surprised how often I use it.

I don't follow that philosophy. Seems like I am always getting in a situation where I need a specific tool......removing bolts on injector pumps for one, starters for another for a couple of examples. The right tool, regardless of how long it has been in the tool box, fixes me right up.

Don't laugh. Crescent made adjustable wrenches when I was growing up and we just referred to them as Crescent Wrenches. Fast forward, HF adjustable has some with metric dimensions on one side and ASME on the other.

8 mm can usually be subbed by a 5/16 16mm by 5/8 19mm by 3/4 only a few thousandths difference. My question is why does almost every set I see lack the 18mm? I have bought several different ones over the years and only one had the 18 but every one has the 19mm

I only things I currently own that require 'Imperial' sockets and wrenches are my 1949 Farmall C tractor and a few old implements.
Many years ago I worked on British motorcycles that used Witworth sizes, ever hear about Witworth? I had a whole set, ended up donating them to a museum. I really disliked those Witworth sizes, completely screwball. I'm fully metric now, no going back in time for me. 'Imperial' sucks too.

Some outfit called me a year ago with a deal to buy some drill bits, guarnteed for life. I said sure but they must be metric, guess what? They didn't have a metric set, I said who the f uses imperial drill bits any more? I have fractional, letter series and number series but no metric. Maybe for Christmas...

If you have a Chevy, you will likely find quite a few 18mm hex heads on suspension and steering components.

If you plan to do any tapping or semi-precise work, consider a set in 0.1mm increments up to 5.5mm, and half millimeter sizes up to 12mm.

I'd buy them if it was a good deal. In gas service orifice size drill bits would be handy too, precise. You need a very good chuck to hold such small drill bits. Lots of tools i'd like to use. 3D printers...anyone?

13,14,15,17, 19 and 21 I find are most common wrenches and sockets to use on vehicles now days.

Finding a complete socket or wrench set that includes a 20mm is not common now days.

I have them covered from 4mm up to 36mm in both wrenches and sockets. So I am good for now. Some of the larger wrenches and socket were bought separately for a specific job. Like 34 and 36mm axle nuts.

I find the combine (Deere) likes the 15mm and some 18mm Most of the rest are anyone's guess. I do have the most of those sizes mentioned not in the smaller sizes and the bigger sizes except for the 24,30,32 mm. Don't have much need yet for metric on the pickup yet. Most is still SAE or I can cover them with like mentioned the 13,14,24 for the 1/2,9/16, 15/16 sizes. though I have found some of the SAE or Metric sized nuts and bolt heads are sloppy enough the wrenches will not interchange well fit wise. Have to be sort of force feed on by hand not slipped on like a well fitted wrench. Been using the afore mentioned sizes interchangeably for 30 years now. Thanks guys just didn't see much point to buying sizes that would not be used like the previous mentioned 25/32 size.

Mostly suggestions on the sizes not use much or close to at all. I have some wrenches already and was going to fill out the set of what is left. Just thought maybe some sizes were not use much and might not even bother with them at least at this time. And how big do I stop at. I have SAE up to about 2-1/4 or a bit larger. Mostly working on the combine with these and maybe some future car or pickup use. I know a cresent/adjustable wrench will fit most all of them up to the size of the wrench and I see the humor being injected with this also as I grin with it. As for brands Im going to fill out a set of Blackhawk I already have and so far have quite a few of them along with some sockets in 3/8 and 1/2 drive. Not looking for 3/4 drive at this time. though I may have to buy a select socket or so over time in that drive . As for brand I hate to buy piece meal and I don't like buying cheap brand tools. I have found you get what you pay for in the long run. Like most of the cheaper brand ratchets they don't even service just swap it out with the old one for a warranty. Even Deere is doing that. My old Proto,Snapon,Mac, and S/K tools have been good over the years along with my 30-40 year old Craftsman tools. Ratchets were junk back then but the sockets have been pretty good.
