mf 12 baler

I have a problem with a MF 12 baler. The hay feeder forks on the top of the baler have been getting hit by the plunger. I tried changeing the timing (by guesswork) and got it to go around a few times without the plunger hitting anything, then it happened again, bending those feeder forks. Any ideas? Is it the timing or should I be looking at something else?

YOu threw a chain and therefore your timing is out. Or your timing just got outta wack for some reason. Get a manual and retime it just how it tells ya in the manual.

Also check the idler for the chain that drives the feeder forks. Mine has loosened up over the years and that can also cause the chain to slip or just have too much slack.

Thanks for all the help I've gotten with this. Using the directions form the manual, I set the timing. (First, I tightened chains) When I turned the flywheel around by hand, the feeder forks went up at apparently the right time, got to the top of the revolution, then sort of fell to the bottom. They got to the plunger too soon and caught on the edge of the plunger as it came back. I tried setting the timing several times and could not get it to work. A couple of times, the feeder forks seemed to just slip backwards-- they always just fall to the bottom when reaching the top of their turn-- didn't seem right-- either I'm not setting the timing right or maybe the gearbox that drives the feeder forks is shot or has some sort of problem. Any ideas?

Describe what you mean by fall? Of course theyre gonna fall from the top because the weight and the rest of the systems are going to pull them back down. Maybe you could include a short video clip or something?
