MF 124 baler Opinion

OK I have a MF 124 Baler I have been workin on and have it working good. I also have another one for parts. the one I have been working on is now in pretty good shape. my question should I keep it and use it? was it a good baler in its day? should I sell it and get something else? I do about 40 acres of hay with 4 cuttings a year. I want a baler that will be dependable. I have been using a John Deere 348 and I really like it, but i nave to give it back. I need your advice Thanks

As long as it works and is not costing you a lot in maintaince keep it going ,what do you have to lose keep the money in the bank as long as you can then spend it when you need a baler .

Considered to be a good quality,"medium" capacity baler in its day, but considerably slower than most balers sold today. If you have to push it too hard in order to get the job done, you will tear it up in short order, so might as well sell it while still good and get a bigger one (many $$$). If its fast enough to get the job done without "cobbing it to it", should last many years.

If you are reasonably satisfied with it and would rather not spend the money to trade it,than may as well keep it.If you literally hate the thoughts of going to the field with it every time and have abit of money set aside,than get rid of it,life is too short.

I ran a #12 for years and it was as good as any other baler in the area if it ain't broke don't worry run it until it dies

124's have a good reputation in our area. We've got a 12 which came before the 124, and it's a good baler too. Keeps up plenty fast for a guy stacking on the wagon. If we had a kicker on it, it might be considered slow but it's fast enough for stacking on a wagon behind it. Pretty trouble free too.

OK. the baler is in really good shape now. I dont mind useing it at the present time. but I have noticed it seems a little slower than the JD I have been useing. also I am running it with a IH 856 and have been told this may be too much HP for it ? my only real concern is how will it hold up in the long run as I dont want to have to mess with it when I need it to work. I dont care about having to work on it in beteween baling thats fine. just not when i am trying to get done. ok so if money was not a issue...say there is plenty to cover another nice used baler.....keep it or sell it Iam split and cant deside. it does make a nice tight bale for sure and my bale wagon will pick them up. Thanks. :roll:

856 won't hurt is a bit I always used a 7 or 806 and we could do 3000 bales a day pretty easy
