MF 135 alternator replacement

I have a 1964 MF 135 with a Z-145 continental gas engine. I'm looking to replace my generator with an alternator. I was thinking a 63-amp Delco alternator would work. Any opinions?
Would I need a new bracket?
Also does anyone have a wiring diagram I could refer to?

63 amp is way over kill on a tractor unless you have a ton of lights etc. I use ones made for a 1980 Chevy pickup. No AC no power any thing. At O'Reilly's I get them for around $45 plus core and that is with a life time warranty. Bob has posted how to wire them up many times so if you search for his posts on alternator he posted a picture of how to wire them up

I am just guessing here, doesn't your generator drive a tachometer? you will need a
alternator with a tach drive.

I just bought a 1 wire factory rebuilt on Ebay from PEP Boys for $25, $32 including shipping. It is a 45 amp, which is all you need.

And I will probably lean toward a new alternator rather than a rebuilt one. I've had bad luck buying rebuilt stuff but I would still consider it.

When buying any of them new or rebuilt I have found it is a good idea to have them bench test it before I walk out of the parts store. Over the years I have had more them one new one be only good for a small boat anchor

Check and see if you need the tachometer drive. I have a Z-145 in a different model tractor and the tachometer drive is mechanical off the distributor, not the alternator.

You have a 200 series like a 235, or similar. If the 135 is a new one it should have the Z145. The distributor on the Z145 has 10 teeth, while the Z134 distributor, has 9 teeth. That's a easy way to find out which engine you have if your engine is missing the tag. The Z145 camshaft should be able to go into a Z134, or Z129 block. The only real difference is the number of teeth on the camshaft for the distributor.
