MF 135 Steering Box Lube

My manual tells me that on the 135 w/o power steering to maintain fluid to the rt. pittman arm but I can"t figure out how to check it or fill it. Also, I"m considering purchasing a grader blade and mower for the pasture. What type of mower is best? Brush cutter, rotary or what? Also, is weight or size of the implements a major consideration with only 35 hp on this gas tractor. What size is best. Thanks

If it is in average or better condition.. I'd get a 6' rotary rough cut mower and a 6' box blade.

If it's extreme conditions.. or a tired engine.. a 5' mower should spin up fine.. but may not cover your tracks unless you are adjusted narrow..

Jim, the filler plug for the steering is on top of the steering box, under the battery. In other words, you gotta take things apart to get to it... Not pleasant.

I've got a 135 with the Z145 4 cyl Continental engine and it will handle a 6' bush hog with no problems. I've had a 7' box blade on the back and that wasn't a problem either. They're just good, solid old tractors.

if you have hilly ground or tight areas to mow get a 5-foot rotary cutter. Easier to handle. I've mowed for years with a MF 135 and they are light in the front, which can cause safety problems on hills with a heavier rotary cutter like a 6-footer. But, if flat ground and mostly grass a 6-footer rotary cutter will work fine. If you keep blades smooth rotary cutters do a nice job on grass.
