MF 165 fuel line connection

I recently had to replace the fuel lift pump on my 165 diesel. The only way I could get the lines reattached to the new pump was to attach them before I mounted the replacement pump to the tractor. If I mounted the pump first I just couldn't get the threads to start. I then had to muscle the pump in place to mount to the engine, which worked, but now the replacement part has a hairline crack in the housing and is leaking oil. Did I just get a cheap bad part, or is it possible the tension of the lines created stress on the part? Any advice on proper procedure to reassemble as far as mounting and attaching lines, tips or tricks would be greatly appreciated, Thanks

Hard to say what caused the crack.

Sometimes you have to "rework" the lines a bit to get them to install with little stress into to a new pump.

Your picture is so close it is hard to tell just where it is, but it looks near the pivot pin for the pump lever. You may have had the lever a bit out of place when you forced it in and caused the crack when the engine started.

Lift pumps are made of a diecast material which does not have a lot of strength. Bend the lines so you can install the pump first. It probably cracked when you tightened the bolts. Looks like something that would happen to me.

Thanks, that is what I ended up doing. But not without some struggles! First off, the replacement pump came with the line connections oriented at 12 o'clock and 4 o'clock not 11 and 3 for my setup. Called the supplier and they assured me that if I unscrewed the top and repositioned it that it wouldn't effect the warranty. Once that was done I discovered that the new part had different threads than my connections so I swapped out the top of the broken one to the now second replacement and all is good 👍 thanks.
