mf 175 carb leak

While working on my tractor yesterday I noticed gas dripping from the hose leading from the air cleaner. Found gas also dripping from the bottom of the carb.

Shut off the gas at the sediment bowl, pulled the carb, and checked it out. Thought it might be a leaking needle valve, but everything looked OK.

Put it all back together, turned on the gas, came back a few hours later (after dinner) and NO LEAK!

Went out this morning, checked again, not problem. But by Noon it was doing it again.

Anybody got any suggestions? The carb is new, installed by the dealer when I bout the tractor last fall. I had the hood off and the sending unit removed the first time I noticed this, but now that is all replaced and the problem is still here.

Could it just be very hot weather? We've been 100 or more for the past couple of weeks.

Last week I had problems with missing under load and hard starting. Could that have been the carb flooding out? I also worry about vapor lock in this heat (although it's getting hard to find a mechaninc who knows what vapor lock is anymore).
I ended up replacing plugs, points, condenser, rotor, etc, which seemed to clear up the problem.

Any advice would be welcome.

sounds like your needle valve is going bad, check needle seat to be sure it's tight, also check the float adjustment it could be to high, don't press on the float when checking you can distort the neoprene needle valve tip, also make sure the float doesn't have a leak an is sinking
