Does anyone have any tips/tricks for removing the hood on my 175?

I have removed all of the bolts I can find, but something is still holding the front end down.

Here I am planing major repairs and I am stuck just trying to get into the thing!

Any help would be welcome.

It is a little bit of a chore if the screws and nuts are rusted and dirty. You may have to do a little grinding or burning.

You have to take a few nuts and screws out by going inside the front grill, and work around the power steering cylinder and linkages. It is a nuisance because the nuts are up under a lip. Also, if I remember correctly, you take off a bracket on each side at the bottom of the front, just above the front axle.

Just keep poking around, you'll find everything that is holding her down.

When you put it back together don't tighten anything until all of the sheet metal is in place and all of the screws and nuts are started.

Hi Tim,
Assuming that the bonnets (hoods) are the same as the UK one the procedure is as follows;
Remove both side panels as if gaining access to the battery.
Remove the four screws around the outside of the instrument panel.
Disconnect the instrument panel light at the light switch if fitted.
Remove the grille door and remove the four vertical 1/4unf screws that go upwards through the upper edging of the grill into the bonnet.
Remove the 1/4 screws that hold the top of the grill side panels to the radiator frame bracket.
Just behind the bracket you will see a vertical screw going into the bonnet in the rear of the 'T' bracket.(Photo) Remove the one from each side.
The bonnet should now be free.
Lift up the rear end and at the same time slide it forward. When clear of the instrument panel if can be lifted clear.
At this stage it is advisable to leave the grill and side panels in place.

Nice job there David
Good to see the Tank painted black the correct colour for tractors built after 1973

Got everything off finally. Difficult to get to all the bolts, complicated by front end loader and a massive grille guard, but managed. While it was all apart I painted all the parts with Rustoleum Red and fixed some minor electrical problems. Got my dash lights working for the first time ever, replaced the fuel sending unit and now have a gas gauge!

All is back together now, and I am in the process of replacing the tie rod ends, which will, I hope, eliminated the looseness in the steering.

All this, of course, is made more difficult by the 100 + temps we have had for the last couple of weeks. (I am in mid Missouri, Lake of the Ozarks).

Thanks for the help.

Tim
