I originally posted this in the wrong forum, so I will repost it here in the correct one.


Hi all. I have a MF 175 gas with the Perkins engine. It runs extremely rough and backfires. I have replaced recently the carb, points, plugs, condenser, cap, rotor, and coil. I believe it needs timed correctly, but for the life of me, I cant figure out how to do it. I have a timing light, but where are the timing marks and the pointer, such as old cars have, so I can adjust it? Is there a port somewhere? I assumed it would be somewhere around the flywheel area, but I just cant find it.

Perkins gas timing marks are on the front pulley, does the distributor advance move as it should with speed? If rusted/stuck that will cause trouble..

We he advance seems to be work. Is there a marker or something to reference when timing? I dont see one

I will check the advance mechanism though
