MF 1805

Any thoughts on a MF 1805 4X4, good or bad thanks

We bought one new in 1976. Owned it six years. Cannot recommend it. Not dependable.

Getting old many done hard pulling work Got a cat v8 in Yuck! probably Cheap for a few more reasons and probably ones a noisy cab. I know a guy got a 48 newer series and thats not great for cab noise . I know where there are a couple 1805's sitting near here, I've driven past them at least once every week for 14 years and they haven't moved, got to be a reason they still sit there and not been sold. Guys won't even use them to tow packers on highway construction ,round here and they like cheap junk. I see JD 84 type series, the odd case 2470 type and the odd steiger with those guys not any 4wd masseys!.
But from previous experience commenting on what I've seen with some MF tractors you will find 50 guys here will think it's the best tractor ever built, and there is nothing wrong with them L.O.L.

My question is for Robert Major.......

If you dislike Massey Ferguson products so much why do you spend so much time on the Massey forum on this site!?
If I remember to date now you think MF 1085, 1105, 1135, and 1155's are junk......now the 1505, 1805, 4800, 4840, 4880, and 4900's are junk!
Unless you have some solid usable information to the machines weak spots or strong points to help a guy out on here then shut your mouth! Your post was of no value!
Go play on the John Deere or CaseIH forum.......obviously your not a MF man!

Tell you what. I tell from what I see and guys
have told me that do run them or are on other
forums, maybe search 1805 on Google then see
what guys say on other forums about them to ,
you might like to go tell them what A holes
they are to.
You are blind to Massey. Kinda like the guys
that say Deeres the greatest tractor on the
earth.
Truth is when they get to 30 or 40 years old
they are starting to be heading to be junk as
well, with expensive issues, and some new ones
aren't a rip roaring success either My customer
just traded a babied 7320 due to expensive
problems, Deere pretty well gave him the new
one to keep him happy! .
This aint 1974 anymore, these things have done
a lot of work and are starting to show it, as
well as being old technology. it is what it is.
Bet you'd say ford or IH was junk if asked. Seems to me you own this forum Not YT. Got tell the other guy that had one he's wrong to that posted with me!
And as for my post you just came here roasted me and told him nothing helpfull either , So you better tell him what he needs to know That will hopefully get him the greatest tractor ever built .
Every tractor has it's faults. I run Valtra, Thats an agco product now I'm not happy about. and it's a good tractor, But I just re built a gearbox for a guy so they have problems to!

While I am a big Massey Ferguson fan the 1805 just isn't a good tractor, they were introduced in 1975, and discontinued in 1977 (that should say a lot). The 3208 Cat engine they have is noisy, blows head gaskets, and fuel injectors that wear out (easy to replace but expensive), and they really guzzle fuel (they only get around 4 - 4 1/2 mpg in a semi-truck). It "maybe" a good tractor if you could swap in a big Perkins diesel with the same HP rating, it probably won't be direct, easy bolt in.

John Deere forum? They are funny folks, the only John Deeres they think are good are the 4440 and the 4020. The rest seem to be on a lemon list! LOL

Hi from what I see with stuff in my shop, what guys say that have owned the tractors, or other comments on forums, It don't matter what color tractor it is.
Everybody has built a few bad models out there,or there are certain ones farmers didn't like.
Those ones are the cheap tractors in sales or on the dealer lots. Most of what don't sell like that round here, ends up in Ritchie brothers auctions, in other provinces shipped out of country, or at machinery wreckers.
Basically the internet is like an extended coffee shop, that brings tractor talk to a lot of farmers or mechanics front rooms or offices.
Hense the pockets in the country where guys really don't like, or have trouble with certain models. This info now gets out there, When 20 years ago it stayed in the home areas, and of course the been no where never seen the world, every model and brand is perfect guys Don't like it!.

Robert I personally do not hate any brand! I do like Massey and Oliver the best of all of them, I like John Deere and International, also I have owned a Case 1175 and liked it too, there were things not great about it but like all brands it is to be expected. There is great points on brands and bad points. You say the 1100 series massey is junk. I like them, comparing the trans and rear ends to a JD of the same time, 30 series, the jd was not as strong as they needed to be. I do not know of a 30 series trans in my area that had not been rebuilt. They are tractors, they all break down, run what you like, and enjoy life! Have a good day:>)

You pretty well nailed it with the Deere and the 30 series , the newer masseys are like that here and sales suffered due to the bad rep. the 1100 was the one that was good here, but they are worn out now. Round here and no use to big time operators.
I actually ended up with used 1100 parts for my 1135. as it was all i could find any good out of about 30 1135 and 55s in wreckers here .

The problems came later when the turbo's and the V8 came out. and that basic same rear end just didn't like the power in heavy field work and dual wheels. The 1085 was an american market version of the 595 we had in Europe/ the U.K. it was a failure there, and not popular.

I have had a 595, 165,a 1200 4wd, In the U.k and an 1135 here in Canada. the best was the 165. and we still run a 750 combine here, that was one of the last sold of that model it's aged and worn out to but still cleans better than some Deeres L.O.L.

The tractors all had trans or hydraulic issues some got fixed once by MF mechanics, and the right parts and a few years later they quit again . They all went bye bye for that reason.
I rebuilt the 1135 and the guy thats got it now is still having problems I get asked to look at. I don't think it will ever be right. It's worn out and a money pit at 6000 hrs.

So I have been a massey man to in my life of family farming.
Glad you are a guy that can see the real world to. Hopefully catch you around again. Lets see how many come and defend the 1805 It's not doing good right now L.O.L
