MF 202 three point lift problems

MF202 Three point lift problems. My lift raises when I start the tractor but the selector is in "lower". To lower the lift, I have to move the lever to " raise". Moves up and down smoothly only it's bass-ackwards. It was like this when I bought the tractor. Ive got a blade on the back I'd like to use but it digs in all the way. No position but fully up or fully down. No matter what I do with the draft lever, it doesnt change the situation. Any ideas about what is going on? The shop manual I got with the tractor covers all the variants so using it to work on the beast, I gotta be real careful that I'm looking at the 202 section and the manual was a copy with barely discernible pictures so not really inspiring for taking things apart.

Drain some oil out of the differential and pull off the dipstick cover. Have a look at the linkage. Maybe worn out or adjusted incorrectly. There's a good chance the linkage is rusted or "misplaced ".

When I bought my MF202 from a neighbor, the 3 point lift did not work. I got it at a good price so I figured I'd have to replace the pump. So, I drove it home to my place and removed the round dip stick cover and discovered that the linkage was just stuck. I forced it gently and it came loose. The lift then worked perfectly. I never did tell that neighbor about that. I didn't want him to start crying.
