I have MF 231S. I put new alternator on it and it’s still not charging. I took one of battery terminal off while cranked and it motor died. What else could be the issue with charging? I think that read somewhere about it could be oil sensor. How do I check that?

What general area of this wide world are you located at?

From looking at the parts book, your MF 231S does not have a mechanical oil pressure gauge with an oil pressure switch mounted at the back of it to control the charging and fuel gauge, if that is what you are referring to when you say oil sensor. You have an indicator light for oil pressure.

It appears your tractor has an internally regulated Lucas alternator. A picture of your alternator and the connections/wires to it may show something out of place. Does the battery terminal of the alternator have battery power all the time? Does the spade terminal have power when the key is on? Any blown fuses? Have you checked for broken or wires that have shorted to ground?

You have posted here about things on this tractor over the past six years. Have you acquired/purchased the Operator's and Service manuals for it yet? You may need a wiring diagram to sort this out.

Also, it is not advisable to lift a battery cable while the engine is running (the term cranking is commonly associated with the starter turning the engine over), lifting the cable can cause an alternator can spike voltage and cause other damage.
