MF 240/135 Steering Issue

Power steering stopped working but had plenty of oil. Thought it was a blocked filter so rebuilt the pump. New cylinders were leaking with air bubbles so pump appears to be working. Leaking fixed.
Adjusted turnbuckle on valve as per manual. Steering works but still no steering assist (not hydrostatic p/s).
Checked oil in steering box, low. Filled, still not difference.
The odd thing is that there should be several turns of free play to the right, on the steering wheel once the turnbuckle is disconnected but there is barely half a turn in either direction even with front of tractor lifted up on FEL.
This makes me think that maybe there is a partial jam in the steering column where the ball ball bearings sit?
Running out of ideas....please help!

Have you found this thread? Search for "Power Steering Sloppy". Only the 1st post shows up. Part of my saga, and still working on it. If you disconnect the turnbuckle and get something to to fit in the pin hole of the valve cylinder, you can pull and push and the power steering should go in either direction. Let us know. A video would be better.

Thread 'MF 165 Power Steering Sloppy'

I have a new to me MF 165 with a MF 235 loader. The steering has about 90 degrees of play before the wheels turn. I have 2 videos one with the engine off. I have tried adjusting the main nut on the arm assembly. It took out the slop but then the power would not kick in in one direction or the other. Suggestions appreciated.

Its been 15 years ago or so but I remember having to bleed the air out of the power steering on my 231 Massey. I think I removed the filler cap and with tractor running turn it all the way each way and hold it for a few seconds a couple times and that would get the air out of the system. I learned on here and it worked for me.

The steering arrangement on his tractor is altogether different than a 165.
